Descript AI Remove Video Background

What is Descript AI Remove Video Background?

Descript’s AI Remove Video Background is a feature that automatically detects and removes backgrounds from videos. It works non-destructively: toggle the green screen effect on to remove the original background, or off to bring it back. Once the background is removed, you can add a replacement by uploading a photo or video and choosing “Send to back.” The tool also works on GIFs and images, as long as one person is clearly in the foreground.

Who created Descript AI Remove Video Background?

Andrew Mason, founder of Descript, is credited as the tool’s creator. Descript is the company behind the AI-powered audio and video editing software that includes this background removal feature. Mason is also the founder of Groupon.

Who is it for?

The tool is aimed at videographers, content creators, social media marketers, graphic designers, video editors, educators, online course developers, influencers, filmmakers, and advertising professionals.

How to use it

1. Upload your video: Create a new project in Descript and upload the video you want to edit. A clear human subject in the shot gives the best results.
2. Apply the green screen effect: Select the video layer in the canvas, open the properties panel, and add the “Green Screen” effect. Toggle it on to remove the background, or off to restore the original.
3. Replace the background and export: Add a new image, video, or GIF, then right-click the element and choose “Layer order > Send to back.” Add captions or transitions if needed, and hit “Publish” to export the finished video.
