What is Brave Leo?

Brave Leo is a chat assistant developed by Brave that works independently, without relying on third-party AI services. It is built using Meta’s Llama 2 language model and is currently available to try in the Nightly desktop channel of the Brave browser, where it lives in the Brave Sidebar.

Leo is designed around privacy. Your inputs are sent anonymously through a reverse proxy, conversations are discarded immediately after a reply is generated, and no conversation data is stored or used for training. You don’t need to log in or create an account. However, Brave does share your latest query, ongoing chat history, and relevant page context with the server so Leo can respond. Because responses are based on Llama 2, they may occasionally contain inaccuracies, so treat the output with some caution.

Leo works directly with the web pages you’re viewing. It can provide video transcripts, generate interactive summaries of articles, help you understand what you’re reading, and suggest follow-up questions. You can also use it as a general chatbot.
