What is Vector Magic?

Vector Magic is a really handy tool that’s great at turning regular pictures, the kind made of pixels (we call these bitmap or raster images), into vector graphics. You do this right through their easy-to-use website. This process, often called tracing or vectorization, used to be a real chore, taking ages to do by hand. But with Vector Magic’s automated service, it’s now super quick and painless. The tool works automatically, figuring out the best settings itself to trace your image accurately, even in full color. It’s also incredibly precise, capturing all the little details thanks to its sub-pixel accuracy. By using just the right number of points (nodes) in smart ways, Vector Magic makes sure you get top-notch results. That’s why it’s a go-to choice if you need to convert images to high-quality vectors without a fuss.

Who created Vector Magic?

Vector Magic was actually started by James Diebel and Jacob Norda back in December 2007. James, who originally came from Wisconsin, is a graduate of Stanford University. He studied a few things there, including Engineering Mechanics, Astronautics, Mathematics, and Aeronautics. Jacob, on the other hand, is from Sweden and earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics. The company got its initial funding from Charles River Ventures and some private investors like Steve Blank and Sebastian Thrun. Interestingly, the technology behind Vector Magic actually grew out of an Artificial Intelligence research project at Stanford University.

How to use Vector Magic?

Using Vector Magic is pretty straightforward. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Upload Your Image: First things first, upload the bitmap image you want to convert to Vector Magic. The tool will then automatically figure out the best settings for tracing it.
  2. Check and Tweak: Once the image is processed, you can look at the vector version it created. You’ve got the flexibility to adjust the settings if you want and make any edits you feel are needed.
  3. Download Your Work: After you’re happy with how it looks, you can download the final result. Vector Magic lets you save your vector image in popular formats like SVG, EPS, and PDF. If you’re using the desktop version, you can also get it in AI and DXF formats.

See? It’s as easy as upload, review and edit, and download. You can quickly turn your images into high-quality vectors with Vector Magic.
