What is MicroMusic?

MicroMusic is an AI tool that creates synthesizer presets from audio samples. Built by Software Engineering students at the University of Waterloo as a Capstone project, it uses machine learning to automate the process of tuning synth parameters — a task that normally requires extensive manual adjustment. You provide an audio sample, and MicroMusic generates a matching synth preset.

It also offers specialized AI models for different types of sounds and can split out drum, bass, and vocal stems, making it useful for producers at any experience level.

Who created MicroMusic?

The tool was developed by Software Engineering students at the University of Waterloo. The idea came from their own experience making music: they wanted to simplify synthesizer setup using AI and machine learning. After iterating through prototypes and beta testing, they launched the product publicly.
