What is CharGen?

CharGen is a platform for creating RPG character art, built for tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Players can generate unique character art without artistic skills or AI expertise, avoiding the cost of commissioning custom artwork. It covers D&D characters, NPCs, and monsters, offers hundreds of themes and art styles to match a campaign, includes tools for building monster stat blocks, and lets users share their work in a community gallery.

The platform runs on a Gold system: subscription plans grant Gold, which you spend to unlock special features, better models, and advanced settings for higher-quality images suited to your characters.

CharGen’s goal is to make RPG character art generation easy, affordable, and accessible for every TTRPG player — regardless of drawing ability, budget, or AI experience — so players and Dungeon Masters can visualize their characters without complicated steps.

Who created CharGen?

CharGen was founded by two friends who are both TTRPG fans and tech enthusiasts, with engineering backgrounds and extensive experience playing Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop RPGs. Their goal is to make character art creation accessible to everyone and enrich the TTRPG experience with a simple visualization tool.
